For the next year – August 2011 to August 2012 – I’m embarking on a journey of self-improvement. I’ve spent too much time neglecting my body and soul in recent years, and feel that now is the time to do something positive towards a mental and physical change. This isn’t a re-invention, it’s more of a re-discovery, a rejuvenation of myself – and 35 seems like a good rejuvenation kinda age.
My goal is to focus on one aspect of life each month, for 12 months. These are key parts of my life that could do with a little tweaking – things I’ve been contemplating and musing over for some time. At the end of each month, I’m hoping to have some quantifiable way of measuring my successes and failures, which I’m sure there’ll be some plenty of. While I’ll look at focussing on one aspect each month, I hope that I’ll continue to build on them all over the year, so that by the time I turn the big three-five, I’ll be awesome all round.
So. The 12 areas I’m going to be working on (in no particular order) are:
- Health and Well-Being – October 2011: the goals and the outcome
- Express Yourself – May 2012: the goals and the outcome
- To be Honest… – January 2012: the goals and the outcome
- Making Decisions – June 2012: the goals and the outcome
- Relationships – February 2012: the goals and the outcome
- Family – March 2012: the goals and the outcome
- Time – December 2011: the goals and the outcome
- Appearance – September 2011: the goals and the outcome
- Confidence – August 2011: the goals and the outcome
- Letting Go – April 2012: the goals and the outcome
- Creativity – November 2011: the goals and the outcome
- Other (great category name, huh?!) – July 2012: the goals and the outcome
At the beginning of each month, I’ll be coming up with a few ways to tackle each of these areas, in the hopes that having something concrete to work towards – goals, if you like – will encourage and inspire me to take charge and show more appreciation for…well…myself!
Update: Mission complete!
