This is Pickle and his Grandad. Taken today, on Pickle’s second birthday.
I love this photo so, so much.
Pickle. Our babiest bear. Our baby-who-really-isn’t-a-baby-anymore.
Our sweet, cuddly, affectionate, caring, compassionate little man. From the moment you came bursting into our family, you have been a delight. Sure, we’ve had our fair share of crappy days, but man, the good have definitely outweighed the tough with you. Every moment spent with you is full of wonder and joy, and constant amazement that you are ours.
You are such a happy boy, with the cheekiest, most charming smile that can melt even the hardest of hearts. When you turn that smile towards us, when you know you’ve been doing something you shouldn’t, we struggle to stay cross at you for long. That smile, combined with your current catch-phrase, “I need a cuddle!”….my boy, you are going to break hearts. People always comment on your big, big eyes, and wonder how we can ever say no to you…it’s a struggle, I’ll admit, but if we didn’t, you would be running rings around us.
You adore your big brother, and love to join in with whatever he is playing, but you also know your own mind, and are rather vocal when things aren’t going according quite to your plan. You are quick to be calmed, however, and even quicker to forgive, and Tiny is still your biggest hero.
You’re proving to be a real chatterbox, and I love listening to you talk. You have started coming out with the funniest sentences, and you love to sing, with Twinkle Twinkle and the alphabet song your current favourites. You have an insatiable appetite for books, and I often find you sitting in your room, or Tiny’s room, or the dining room, surrounded by books. You’ve recently mastered your personal pronouns, and have had a real verbal-explosion of late. I love hearing you parrot everything you hear, but my most favourite sentence of all is your unprompted, “I love you, mummy”.
You love going to kindy to drop off and pick up Tiny, and sometimes I think you believe you are a kindy kid yourself; not yet, my baby – plenty of time for that! You have a lovely group of wee friends that we see at kindy, and it makes my heart melt to see you give them cuddles when you see them.
My baby bear…my baby…every day I feel so thankful to be your mama, so thankful that you came into, and completed, our family so perfectly. Doesn’t stop me feeling a little disbelieving that you are TWO, but I’ll get over that….eventually.
Happy second birthday, baby boy. We love you more than you could ever know.
